HOME ENTERTAINERS

Client: A family of four
Location: Glasgow
Service: Interior Design
Style: Contemporary, comfortable, playful

  • Some spaces take time to come to life — and in the case of this beautiful former girls’ school in Glasgow, Margaret and Stuart waited ten years to get it just right. While the bathrooms were tackled early on and the practical work ticked off the list, the formal lounge and games room sat patiently on the sidelines. Now, with a little more breathing space (and a lot more confidence), Margaret and Stuart were ready to give these neglected rooms the attention they deserved - and make them places to gather, relax, and properly enjoy.

  • Lounge

The vision for the drawing room was clear from the start: something formal, but not fussy. A place that felt luxurious, welcoming, and distinctly “them.” A few beloved pieces (including a pair of inherited armchairs) stayed on - reupholstered and given new life. The rest? A full redesign, starting with a bespoke wall panelling scheme to frame future artwork and ground the space with structure and style. We kept the existing wooden floors and wrapped the room in soft latte tones, adding punch with curated accents and a cleverly concealed TV hidden in a lift-up sideboard — a functional flourish that kept the focus on people, not screens.

But it’s the area behind the pillars that really brings the room to life.

  • Bar

Previously a bit of a dead zone, this tucked-away corner became the perfect location for a home bar. Working with our brilliant friends at Studio Cabinetry, we designed a moody, Zoffany Gargoyle-wrapped bar with antique mirror backing, brass fittings, and plenty of shelf space for spirits, wines, and whiskies alike.

The bar island — crafted in rich timber — seats six on bespoke Charlotte James barstools, upholstered in a sumptuous Casamance fabric. Flanked by prep areas, vintage-style glass racks, and custom wine storage, the bar blends elegance with functionality. It’s the kind of space that invites company to stay just a little longer.

  • Oh, and did we mention the disco ball? A sentimental piece from Margaret and Stuart’s very first flat, we gave it pride of place — fully wired to rotate, spotlighted from every corner, and ready for action.

    The Games Room

Halfway up the stairs sits the games room — a second public space that was always meant to be fun. And fun is exactly what we delivered.

Dark walls in Farrow & Ball’s “Railings” create a cinematic atmosphere, while colour-blocked upholstery and layered textures keep it from tipping too far into serious. A custom wrap-around shelving unit neatly divides the room into two zones: one for pool (they’ve had the table since their first home together), and one for curling up to watch movies as a family.

The ceiling is a showstopper: gold-painted coving and colour-changing perimeter LED lighting take full advantage of the original detailing, while electric blackout blinds and wraparound wall-mounted speakers turn this into a full-fledged home cinema at the press of a button.

And the art? Vibrant, joyful, and very much them — including a cheeky Muppets piece that instantly makes the space feel lived-in, loved, and a little bit legendary.

    A Space for Living

This project was all about transforming forgotten rooms into memorable moments. With the right lighting, a little layout magic, and a dash of disco, we helped Margaret and Stuart turn hesitation into celebration. Because when the house is ready, the people show up. And in this home, the party has definitely started.
