A long day of city-centre shopping and sight-seeing calls for a restful room to retreat to. By the time we’d finished with it, the Nira Caledonia Hotel, with its UNESCO postcode and Grade A-listed status, delivered exactly that. As every day closed was a day’s earnings lost, we worked with the efficiency of a barista at 8.55am – as well as the sensitivity required to keep loyal customers happy.

The Georgian architecture lent itself beautifully to the decadent yet relaxed atmosphere we sought. We transformed the hotel into a dreamlike escape of bluish pink and ethereal lighting, with each room furnished individually. Soft watercolour effects and ornate wallpaper evoking woven silk. Patterns rooted in history juxtaposed with contemporary finishes. A smoked pearl palette with a hint of metallic. The perfect city sanctuary, where time slows.
